The castle of CASALE

It is not just a parking lot ... comfortable in the city center. Look around!! How many monuments!

You have the opportunity to visit the Castle though has a small temporary exhibition or during the initiative CASALE OPEN CITY every second weekend of the month (info at the Tourist Information Kiosk); You can find in the market PAVIA interesting liberty antiques market 2nd SATURDAY and SUNDAY of the MONTH that PRECEDES IT, except August.
You can visit the Church of Santa Caterina, a fine example of Baroque architecture, glancing at the Teatro Municipale, by Augustine Vitoli in 1785, or take Via Aurelio Saffi until to the Cathedral, passing in front of the Civic Tower.

The Church was consecrated in 1720 and constitutes the courtroom open to the public, adjacent to the cloistered nuns of Santa Caterina. Generally attributed to Giovanni Battista Scapitta. The daring dome on a drum with oval Windows projects its light in the sacred area.  The frescoes are participating in the Baroque space narration with illusionistic effects

We suggest a visit to the Cathedral to get an idea of the complexity and vividness of the artistic environment that characterizes the town already since the middle ages. The Church we see today is the result of significant transformations over the centuries. From the first settlement built in Lombard times and dedicated to the martyr Lawrence ran to a Romanesque church in 5 naves which experienced an early stage around the year 1100 and then a second phase of construction after a fire in 1215. Difficult to place the exact period in which you configured the narthex which is the atrium that looks like a construction of its own and on which several hypotheses have been advanced, including the Armenian origin of workers employed and recent renovations maybe helped to understand.
During the 16th century it was embellished by a chapel dedicated to Saint Evasio, rebuilt in the middle of the architect Benedetto Alfieri ball feel and consecrated in 1808. Elliptical system constitutes an interesting example of Baroque space footprint.
The system 5 naves with cross vaults and Vault and a gallery lightened by mullioned Windows, you had to submit without a façade accomplished at the time of Alessandro Antonelli which favored having the demolition, opposed by the architect and archaeologist Luigi Canina casalese instead. The ensuing debate eventually ended with the reconstruction of the façade by architect vercellese Edoardo Arborio Mella in 1861, that he invented with full awareness of historicist intervention, typical of those years between Gothic and neo-Gothic.

One of the most beautiful and important synagogues in Piedmont. Open from 1 St September 2016 after the summer break for maintenance. Very interesting also the ancient Jewish history and Art Museum and the Museum of enlightenment. For the story I published an article about architectural transformation in 1996 and restoration on SPABA Bulletin, new series XLVIII-1996.

School Martiri della Libertà, a few steps from piazza castello and "Mercato Pavia", Via Galeotto del Carretto 3.
A fine example of architecture of the regime, which still retains the original wooden window frames and glass cement. Repainted to yellow during the maintenance of facades.

Architect Clara Bartolini  says: "former-clinker storage known as a Paraboloid of Casale is a symbol of industrial archaeology. The construction technology and the shape of the structure are similar to great examples of early 20th century architecture, as for example some renovations and Torroja and Nerves. Starting from a structural analysis can be formulated the hypothesis that the big time has been achieved without rods and pillars. A beautiful image – with the caption – with the caption "the Paraboloid of Casale" — is stated by Marco Dezzi Bardeschi in a recent essay on the preservation of reinforced concrete in modern and contemporary architecture. Memorials in comparison posted on a diary «Ananke» 1, with bullets of the first cement industries in Italy: in the Monferrato casalese – indeed – and in Bergamo. It is certainly no coincidence that an innovative structure for the period in which it was built is right in the city of Casale, with a location adjacent to the old town (Figure 1-2). Paraboloid is also the term given to industrial deposits of cylindrical implant in curved section as those designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, when after an apprenticeship of the technical Office of the "society for cementitious Constructions" in 1920, started his own. These facilities perform in full the possibilities of reinforced concrete that, at the beginning of the 20th century, was recognized as one of the most important discoveries of structural engineering. In fact it allowed the engineers to overcome the limits considered hitherto insuperable by structures known as heavy (made in stone or brick) and in terms of indoor light, both in height and reach the slimnesses characteristics of metal structures.
