Stefano was a very gracious, warm and welcoming host. He picked us up on the road when our navigation gave up, and was friendly and sincere from the get go. His rental house, which he has painstakingly and lovingly restored, is in a beautiful location, in an oasis of calm. The pictures really do not do it justice. Unlike a lot of other places we have stayed which imply you are living in a separate residence but really are not, here, you actually are in a separate house from the owners, with own entrance. Beautiful, rustic charm mixed with solid, practicality, I definitely recommend it!

La casa è in una posizione splendida e panoramica. È tenuta veramente in ordine. La pulizia è eccellente egli host sono super disponibili. Il giardino è un piccolo gioiello tra le colline e di notte il prato è pieno di lucciole. Che dire...: consigliatissimo.

This was our first Italian vacation and we hope it will not be the last. We spent our first 3 nights at Stefano and Christina's beautiful Barbisa 1852 and it was love at first sight! Our stay here set the tone for what was a beautiful and memorable vacation. We felt welcome before even arriving and everything about our stay was beautiful and effortless. Stefano and Christina are passionate about their home, their culture and history and it shows in how they painstakingly restored their beautiful place. We had everything we needed in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the warmth of the wood burning stove. Family arrived to join us for the second and third nights and there was plenty of room thanks to the upstairs apartment. We had a big family cookout using their fabulous wood burning brick barbecue and enjoyed the lovely covered outdoor dining space. We loved our tour around the area, along the river and into the town of Valenza on the e-bikes offered to us at no extra charge. A very pleasant surprise. We had the privilege and good fortune to be invited to participate in an annual fundraising event paddling down the lovely Po river nearby. What a wonderful day! Stefano and Christina introduced us to some wonderful local wines and we learned more about the history of the area. It was a gift to get to experience this part of Italy with its locals. The beautiful views into the hills at sunset are permanently etched in my mind. We would not hesitate to return here and spend more time exploring this area on our next trip!

We’ve stayed at dozens of Airbnb’s with many good experiences. This was one of our best. Stefano and Christina were exceptionally gracious, always promptly returning messages and inviting us on day trips with them. We didn’t have a car (we may rent one next time - and we must return!). Stefano offered to pick us up at the train station and he even drove us back when we departed - at 05.00! The train station is an easy 40 minute walk, but part of it is along a busy strada. Christina is a historic architectural expert, she and Stefano showed us around the Cittadella in Alessandria. What fun, and from Stefano I even learned some Italian words they don’t teach in the classroom but handy when confronting bad drivers. Stefano said his goal is for guests to leave as friends and that mission was accomplished! The grounds are beautiful, we spent many hours just sitting and reading outside. The place is a restored farmhouse, very beautiful and massive, lots of room, quiet and comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed, with a big kitchen table, cutting boards and good knives. The bathroom is large and the shower is spacious with plenty of hot water. The washing machine has a 14 minute cycle and it doesn’t require an advanced degree in programming to operate, both unusual for Italy. There’s plenty of space to park a car. The wireless connection was flawless We had no problem hiking an hour into town, mostly along the unspoiled Po River, and there are long hiking trails (such as the 609) all over. Valenza is a nice town, small enough to navigate and large enough to have whatever you need. What a great experience, we must return here...
